BARTLETT HIGH SCHOOL -- On Tuesday, February 25, the Bartlett Lady Bears Basketball played east side rivals East High School. Mia ‘Uhila shined in the 69-46 win, putting up an astonishing 31 points, six steals, eight assists and three rebounds.
The rivalry of Bartlett and. East means a lot to both schools especially to ‘Uhila with the dominating night.
“It’s a pretty exciting and fun game to play against East,” she said. “Especially after losing to them in the past, it’s a great feeling beating them.”
After a rocky 2-3 start this season, the team needed to figure some things out. Later on, they had a pretty strong 55-32 win over Chugiak, who has a player already committed to a Division I college.
“Our first game against Chugiak with everyone except one player playing really showed how this team could come together as one,” ‘Uhila said.
This year’s team is on the quest for a state title after coming up just short last season. When asked what’s different with this year’s team, ‘Uhila said it’s come down to fundamentals as well as chemistry.
“We have definitely changed our defense from running a zone to running a man,” she said. “And without the chemistry, we wouldn’t be able to play well as a team and we would probably go crazy.”
‘Uhila is definitely a huge piece in the team’s successes this year. Tuesday’s game further proved that. After her standout performance, ‘Uhila’s career totals include 1,225 points, 386 assists, 385 rebounds, and 286 steals.
The ladies next game is on Friday, February 28 at Bartlett at 6 pm.
