BARTLETT HIGH SCHOOL — Our teacher feature for this week is someone students describe as funny, genuine and supportive, the one and only, Mark Youngblood.

Youngblood was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He later moved to Anchorage, Alaska and applied for a teaching job at Bartlett High School, which he got.

He’s been teaching Physics for the past 14 years and says that he likes it.

“I enjoy working with students,” Youngblood answered when asked what he enjoys about his job.

Although Youngblood seems to have a passion for teaching, he mentioned that if he wasn’t a teacher, he would be an engineer.

“I would rather be with kids though,” he said. “Working on (engineering) projects all the time is very dry. It would get boring fast.”

Youngblood understands how repetitive being an engineer would be since his father was one.

Outside of his school life, he enjoys a variety of outside activities such as skiing, hiking, climbing mountains and gardening. If he’s inside his house, he would most likely be found playing a guitar or cooking.
