THIS WEEK’S TEACHER FEATURE: Sarah Davies

By Covie Stockton

B-Town Rundown Staff Reporter

BARTLETT HIGH SCHOOL — Our teacher feature for this week is someone who is passionate about art, nature, her students, and her freedom of expression.

Sarah Davies is originally from Brooklyn, New York. She moved to Anchorage, Alaska to become a ranger for the National Park Service.

“I needed some space and time and quiet,” Davies said on packing up and moving to Alaska alone.

She believes Alaska is the most beautiful place in the world, and her favorite part of living in Alaska is having everything she needs to make her art, which was hard to find in busy New York.

While Davies started as a special education biology teacher, which she has previous experience in and loves doing, she pushed for a spot in the art department, the place she is most passionate.

When asked about her current position at Bartlett, Davies said, “I just make art. That’s what I do. I get to do art inside of work. I do art outside of work. To me, it’s a dream come true: having this job here.”

She believes Bartlett is the best school, and she is happy to give students “the real artist experience” and continue to expand Bartlett´s art department.

Be sure to visit the student-led art gallery for art as diverse as our school, and keep an eye out for Davies as she heads our ever-expanding art department.
