BARTLETT HIGH SCHOOL─ How much do we look to our peers? A good example of this is Denzel Henderson who won National Youth of the Year and is also a producer of a podcast called #youthmatters.

Henderson won National Youth of the Year from one of most of our most memorable places, a place where we all grew up: The Boys and Girls Club. We have made it our safe place and so did Henderson who has been going for three years. Being in The Boys and Girls Club offered the chance for Henderson to apply for National Youth of the Year.

“It was a huge accomplishment,” Henderson said. “It’s opened many opportunities.”

His next stop will be Beverly Hills in May to give a speech. You can follow his journey on Instagram (@d3nzel907), where he posts about National Youth of the Year.

In addition to National Youth of the Year, Henderson is known for his podcast, which officially dropped its first episode on February 7. The podcast introduces the topics of bullying, positive friendships, mental health, generosity and physical activities. They also have special influencers coming to their podcast to speak on the topics. Henderson also mentioned that people from all over the country tune in to his podcast.

The main reason the podcast started is because of the Keystone Club, which is a group of teenagers interested in becoming leaders. The club was having a seminar about bullying, which sparked Henderson’s ideas for the podcast.

He’s had some help getting the whole thing together including from a close friend named Joe and his cousin Daniel Harris. He said the whole process took them a while, but it is truly going to be great.

Henderson wants to give a shoutout to the Spirit Youth for providing all the necessary equipment for running a podcast. And to any friends, family and teachers that are reading this, Henderson said thank you to each and one of you for being there for him and making a difference in his life.
