A Beginner’s Guide to Buying Sunglasses

Picture this... You’re on vacation in Hawaii when you find yourself squinting in every picture. You need to do something, quick. You walk into the nearest store, and straight to the sunglasses aisle. You see so many options. Circles. Squares. Triangles. Hearts. Diamonds. Cat-Eyes. Gold. Silver. Red. Blue. Metal. Plastic. Big. Small. When it comes to sunglasses, the options seem endless, and this can be stressful to someone new to the sunglasses scene, so here are some tips and tricks on picking up a new pair (or two) of shades.

  1. The bigger, the better. — Don’t listen to people who tell you to buy smaller sunglasses simply because they “fit your face shape.” They’re wrong. As a general rule of thumb, you always want to cover as many square inches as possible, to protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun, and the haters, of course.

  2. Don’t let others discourage you from rocking your favorite pair of shades. — It’s not their face. If they make you feel good, wear them. Who says anyone else’s opinions matter anyways?

  3. No sun? No problem. — You can still look stylish, even on cloudy days. Picking up a pair of sunglasses with light colored (such as pink or yellow) or grey lenses will make way for the most light and natural colors in, allowing you to wear them no matter the weather. Plus, they look great too.

  4. Indecisive? Buy them both! — Don’t be afraid to checkout both when you can’t decide between those sweet aviators or the stylish, reserved white mirrored shades. You never know when the occasion might call for either. No shame!

  5. The more, the merrier. — Always be on the lookout for expanding your sunglasses collection. You never know what gems the gas station in the middle of nowhere might be hiding. Bonus points if you have a great way of storing or displaying your ever-growing collection.

  6. Don’t go too overboard — Never leave your sunglasses retailer of choice with more than four pairs of shades at a time. You run the risk of looking ridiculous, and people might even think you’re running a secret underground sunglasses smuggling ring. Yikes!

  7. Enjoy the view. — Put those sunglasses to use! You can always retire them if need be. Have fun; don’t be afraid to scratch your sunglasses or get them dirty. Sunglasses are the hottest summer (or any season, for that matter) accessory, and they’re meant to be taken on adventures. Remember, just have fun! You can always find a replacement pair at your nearest Target.
