BARTLETT HIGH SCHOOL- The Bartlett Lady Bears took a loss last Friday night against the West Anchorage Eagles. It was a hard fought game, but the journey to state isn’t over.

The evening also recognized the teams seniors: Sierra Tunguing, Maiyahna Olson, Aubrey Harris and Bartlett’s team manager, Makayla Blewett.

This is Harris’ first year at Bartlett and first year on the basketball team. Harris’ plans after high school are to “graduate from college with a nursing degree and [maybe] participate in intramural basketball” as long as it doesn't get in the way of school. Her favorite memory with the basketball team is going to Fairbanks because she says, “We had the best time!”

Tunguing has been a part of the girls basketball program for two years and has played varsity both years. She loves basketball because “of all the friendships that you make and being able to be a part of a family.” Her advice for incoming freshman is, “always stay on top of your grades and to work hard in practice and push yourself.”

Olson has been part of Bartlett varsity basketball for one year and she joined to make her mother proud; she also likes the sport. Olson has learned from her coaches and teammates that “it’s important to show perseverance, how important teamwork is and that hard work pays off in the end.”

There’s only a few weeks left in the season, and we wish you all the best in regions and states!
