BARTLETT HIGH SCHOOL -- Over the snowy weekend, our Bartlett Bear ski team competed in the state skiing tournament. The tournament began on Friday, Feb. 29 and continued until Sunday, March 1 in Kincaid Park.

Every school in the district that has a ski team participated, meaning schools such as Service, West, Dimond and Eagle River attended the tournament.

A few students who represented Bartlett were Qihang Peng, Luke Lilly, Aaron Delacruz, Haley Chadwick, Zong Xiong and Marie Mackin.

Xiong admitted that before joining the ski team, he had no idea how to ski. This tournament was his first, and he felt a little nervous about it. After the tournament, he felt proud of himself and learned new methods of skiing.

“I learned how to stop and go downhill. I also learned how to do the classic skiing and skate skiing,” Xiong answered when asked about what he learned during his time on the team.

Overall, the ski team seemed to have fun during the season and encourage others to come out and ski with them.
